LONDON

This series was completed by exploring what beauty and frivolity could be found in the exhuberant life lived in London. These were often inspired by moments or events, times that seemed so intense and vivid, yet fractured and distorted by the vibrancy of the times. They express both pain and longing, but also fun, hilarity and the ridiculous. At times, combining the written word to enhance or juxtapose.

COLOUR

These were an exploration of colour, inspired by colour field artists and abstract expressionism, Mark Rothko, Clifford Still and the beauty of nature.

SOMERSET

Moving back to Somerset, living near the Quantocks, exploring the coast, ancient woodland and moors has inspired my art in a number of mediums from painting and prints to work with felt and local found materials. Capturing the details of beauty and the perfect imperfections of nature has become a delightful obsession.

DETAILS AND LANDSCAPES

These photos intend to offer a fresh perspective on what frequently passes us by. The desensitised approach to a busy lifestyle means we often miss, or don’t have time for, the simple beauty around us; from small details to large landscapes. We walk through our own gallery each day in which we should credit ourselves as the inspired protagonist.

SKETCH BOOK

Sketching is a skill which I should practise more. Now, I seem to have moments of sketching, flights of fancy perhaps, or as a result of requests from my children.

ABSTRACT LANDSCAPES

The natural world holds infinite beauty in its imperfections and this way of working forces me to accept imperfections in my art to work with them, to explore the unexpected and to flow with the work. Works grow organically and with narrative. The process takes time between layers and forces a meditative reflection which is healthy. I think the work is actually good for me.

COME INTO THE LIGHT

Mindfulness and wellbeing is something that has become a focus for my thinking. How we accept and understand our emotional selves. How with kindness, creativity and care we can heal both ourselves and others. The importance of art, of expression and acceptance without judgment. This series links a lot with poetry and the written word to attempt to untangle and represent our deepest emotions.
